POOL HOUSE
POOL HOUSE
This Pool House was designed in tandem with a new landscape plan on a large, beautiful property in Hillsborough. Defined by its relationship to the pool, the goal was to create a space of repose with rich connection to the existing Tudor home. Situated on the south side of the property, the paired gables of the ADU reflect the scale and forms of the existing house, while the glass pavilion between the gables creates a classic framed view over the pool, as well as a shaded, protected poolside cabana. The connection of the Pool House to the main house is enhanced by its material palette. The gable wings are clad in black-charred Shou Sugi Ban siding, which complement the dark painted timbers of the main house, while the stone at the back wall of the cabana speak to the coloring of the stucco infill. An expansive wall of steel bifold doors emphasize the blurred lines of indoor-outdoor California living. The dark Shou Sugi Ban siding seamlessly transitions to blonde cypress at the cabana space, providing a stark contrast which provides added texture and interest to the interior walls and ceiling. Precise detailing of the wood siding is evident in features such as the blind doors that lead to the adjacent gable spaces and the coursing of the siding to place openings on rhythm. The Pool house was designed as an ADU and the guest house aspect is an important feature of the design. The new pool anchors the landscape and emphasizes axial connections within the landscape and the buildings.
