The renovation of this early Wurster home in San Francisco was a study in simplicity and restraint. The brief was to maintain and honor the early midcentury modern tradition, yet update the home. The formal spaces were left largely intact with the emphasis on opening up the service kitchen to be the new social and physical center of the home. Another focus of the project was to create a roof terrace with incredible views as an outdoor room, and yet integrate it into the home. The details of the new insertions into the home were understated and seemingly simple, in keeping with the original Wurster intent as well as the clients own vision of the home.
