TIBURON
TIBURON
The project was an extensive renovation and addition to an uninspired ranch house on a spectacular view lot in Tiburon. The program was one to create a house with rich materials and detailing, inventive and flexible use of rooms and to capture the dramatic views from the site. The front looks west and south to the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco with spectacular sunsets. The rear captures the sunrise and expansive views to the East Bay. The new design provides a home that takes advantage of these views, afforded from a flat lot on the ridge above town. The interior of the house was reconfigured to open up the main living area, both within rooms and in a plan reoriented to the view. A rich palette of materials combined with an intricate attention to detail give the home a presence that belies the small size. The exterior of the house has massing designed to articulate the volumes of the space, and emphasize corner windows and the view. The mitered corners of shiplap siding and slate roof combine with integrated window articulation to give the house a strong visual presence for such a small home.
